Honouring The Legend, Dr. Huntley Palmer Christie

On this day the 7th March, 2026, The Department of Local Government proudly honours the life and enduring legacy of Dr. Huntley Palmer Christie, an exemplary public servant, master educator, man of faith, and devoted son of North Andros.

As former Local Government Administrator for the North Andros and Berry Islands districts, Dr. Christie led with integrity, foresight, and an unshakeable commitment to the advancement of his people. His leadership was marked not only by sound governance, but by compassion, wisdom, and a deep belief in community empowerment.

For more than forty years, he faithfully served as an educator, shaping generations of Bahamians with knowledge, discipline, and patriotic pride. Beyond the classroom, he served as a Justice of the Peace, community activist, poet, author, radio host, and lay pastor, using his voice, his pen, and his faith to inspire progress and strengthen the moral fabric of society.

A visionary and steadfast nationalist, Dr. Christie believed in the promise of The Bahamas and laboured tirelessly for the growth and dignity of North Andros and the Berry Islands.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Lerlean Christie; his sons and daughter-in-laws, Kirk (Sosefina), Kendrick(Cynthia), and Miguel (Bianca), beloved daughter (Krystle Alexis Davis-deceased); and his cherished grandchildren, Miguel Jr., Channing, Kamryn, and Kamari.

Today’s honour stands as a testament to a life defined by service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to country. His legacy endures in the lives he touched and the community he helped to build.
